Firefighting.

Ever since I was a little boy, I've always wanted to be a firefighter.  It has always been my dream.  Whenever I see a fire engine my eyes light up.  Whenever I hear a fire engine it's music to my ears.

My senior year of high school I worked at a place called Vargo Physical Therapy as an Aide.  When chatting with a patient one day, I realized he was the Fire Captain for a local fire station.

After he was done with his therapy session, we continued to talk.  He was very understanding on my decision to go to college and play football.  He simply said, "Get your degree, and we'll get you on from there."

Before I knew it, I was doing "ride alongs" whenever I could.  This was to gain experience.  I've done about a half dozen ride alongs and have seen some pretty sweet things!

We were called to a car fire on one of the busiest freeways in California.  Of course it was shut down so we could work.  I've seen someone have a seizure, someone with a gunshot wound, someone overdose on pain medicine, and much more.

Still today, three years later, I keep in touch with him. He follows Weber State now, and is going to help me with the process of becoming a fireman after I graduate.

Here is a picture of me in the local paper helping on Fire Service Day :)

  9. First responders don't get as much credit/benefits as they deserve. I'm impressed that you've pursued this type of career.
